For the fourth edition in a row Jannik Sinner will play in the quarter-finals of the Masters 1000 in Miami. The Italian also eliminated the Australian Christopher O’Connell (6-4, 6-3) and will now face, for a place in the semifinals, the Czech Tomas Machac, who beat Matteo Arnaldi (6-3, 6-3 ) and prevented Jannik from competing in another all-Italian derby after the one he won against Andrea Vavassori (6-3, 6-4). Sinner and Machac will play the second scheduled match on the main pitch. The first will be at 6pm between the French Caroline Garcia and the American Danielle Collins.
No precedents
They compete for the first time. Machac started playing tennis at the age of five, practicing hitting the block while his sister was busy practicing or playing. Invited by the Sparta Prague tennis club, one of the best in the Czech Republic, he continued to train there until today. He made his debut on the ITF professional circuit in 2016 and in 2018 he won three singles tournaments in his country. In 2019, after winning another ITF tournament, he abandoned the category and in April he made his debut in the ATP Challenger Tour.
In 2022 he entered the Top 100 of the ATP rankings. Now he has the great opportunity to challenge Jannik, number three in the world. On the night between 27 and 28 March, the Russian Daniil Medvedev and the Chilean Nicolas Jarry will compete (last match on the main field). In the doubles, the Italians Sar Errani and Jasmine Paolini will face the Russians Irina Khromacheva and Ekaterina Aleksandrova in the quarterfinals (fourth match on the Granstand).
