Sheinbaum rules out increase in kidnappings in the country despite kidnapping of 25 people in Culiacán – El Sol de México

The official presidential candidate, Claudia Sheinbaum, regretted this Saturday the mass kidnapping that occurred on Friday in Culiacán, Sinaloa, although she ruled out that the events have to do with the electoral process and that there is an increase in the rates of this crime.

“I don’t think we should mix (the kidnapping with the elections),” said the former head of the capital’s government, during a press conference from Saltillo, Coahuila.

Sheinbaum thus spoke out about the kidnapping of at least 25 people, which occurred on Friday, who were deprived of their liberty by alleged members of organized crime, although 18 of them were released this Saturday morning, according to local authorities.

The doubt arises because Rubén Rocha, governor of the state where the kidnapping occurred, is part of the National Regeneration Movement (Morena), which she represents.

The official candidate also said that these “are cases that we obviously regret,” but that it is a matter for the federal authority.

“It is a matter of the federal authority, I have the information that 18 people have already been recovered and that the Conase (National Anti-Kidnapping Coordination) is working for it,” he emphasized.

Likewise, he ruled out that the number of kidnappings in the country is increasing.

“I don’t really agree in saying that there are more and more cases of these, or there were more in 2018, they should be measured. “You know that all crime rates at the national level are going down, that does not mean that there is no continuing insecurity in the country,” he remarked.

And he insisted that work must be done to reduce crimes in Mexico, mainly by addressing the causes and zero impunity.
