Canadian star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 23 points, eight assists and seven rebounds and the Oklahoma City Thunder defeated the Toronto Raptors 123-103 on Friday.
Chet Holmgren added 18 points and 10 rebounds for the Thunder, who won their fourth straight game. Montrealer Lugentz Dort provided 10 points.
For the Raptors, who suffered a ninth loss in a row, Gradey Dick was the most productive with 21 points. Kelly Olynyk had 16 points, six rebounds and five assists.
Gary Trent Jr. did not participate in the meeting. The Raptors removed him from their roster due to lower back stiffness.
By virtue of his absence, the Raptors’ entire regular starting lineup was sidelined.
The Toronto team was also without Scottie Barnes, Jakob Poeltl, RJ Barrett, Immanuel Quickley, Chris Boucher and DJ Carton.
Even though the battle looked uneven on paper, Dick scored eight points in the first six minutes of play, giving the Raptors an 11-point lead. The latter also led 35-28 after the first quarter.
The Thunder responded with a 15-2 advantage to start the second quarter and take the lead. The visitors were therefore ahead 63-56 at halftime.
Dick made a long three-pointer early in the fourth quarter, cutting the Thunder’s lead to 10 points. However, the Thunder did what was necessary to win the game afterward.
