Sergio Pérez (Red Bull) penalized by three places on the grid in Australia

The Mexican “unnecessarily hampered” the German Nico Hulkenberg (Haas) during qualifying.

The Mexican Sergio Pérez (Red Bull), third in qualifying for the Australian F1 Grand Prix on Saturday, will finally be 6th on the starting grid on Sunday, after receiving a three-place penalty for having “unnecessarily hampered” the German Nico Hulkenberg (Haas) during qualifying.

He will start on the third row alongside Australian Oscar Piastri, who moved up to 5th place thanks to Pérez’s penalty.

The sanction also affects the Briton Lando Norris (McLaren) and the Monegasque Charles Leclerc (Ferrari), who each gain one place. The duo will start from the second row.

The start of the Australian round, the third meeting of the season, will be given on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. local time (5:00 a.m. Paris time, 4:00 a.m. GMT) with the Dutchman Max Verstappen (Red Bull) in pole position, next to the Spaniard Carlos Sainz (Ferrari).
