Sebastián Báez Wins ATP 250 Tournament in Santiago, Crowned Champion

Sebastián Báez (21st) was crowned champion of the ATP 250 tournament in Santiago by beating the Chilean Alejandro Tabilo (51st) in the final by 3-6, 6-0 and 6-4 in 2 hours and 15 minutes of play. The Argentine had just won last week in Rio de Janeiro and achieved new consecutive victories on the circuit.

The 23-year-old tennis player began by losing the first set with the local team that put up a fight, but then he did things very well to not lose any game in the second. In the third, Tabilo woke up but Báez, with the entire crowd against him, broke his serve and led to his victory.

Báez’s path to the title in Chile included victories over the Peruvian Juan Pablo Varillas (119th), the Spaniards Jaume Munar (70th) and Pedro Martínez (101st) in the quarterfinals and semifinals, respectively, and in the final over Tabilo to win his sixth ATP title.

The Argentine thus adds the Chilean competition to his list of consecrations in Estoril 2022, Córdoba 2023, Kitzbuhel 2023, Winston-Salem 2023 and Rio 2024.

The one born in Billinghurst, province of Buenos Aires, will be the best Argentine racket in the ATP ranking starting Monday, reaching 19th position and displacing Francisco Cerúndolo (22nd).
