Schönberger second at the league opener in Leonding

With Sebastian Schönberger in second place and Marco Schrettl in third place, two Austrians made it onto the podium at the start of the national cycling league on Sunday. After a sprint of more than three and a half hours on the 153 kilometer long and slightly hilly course around Leonding, the two were only beaten by the Slovenian Jaka Primozic, who won the overall ranking of the Road Cycling League Austria last season.

In the women’s category, defending Styrian league champion Elisa Winter finished fifth, 14 seconds behind at the start. In the final sprint, the German Corinna Lechner took victory ahead of the Hungarian Petra Zsanko. The route was significantly lengthened and for the first time it covered a distance of 86.4 kilometers. The cycling league series includes six races at some different locations until the finale on September 14th in Judendorf.
