San Marino Baseball Welcomes New Pitching Talent for 2024 Season

First races in Serravalle and a brand new Italian mountain. San Marino Baseball began training yesterday with the first group of Italian players and, in this context, also made three new Afi pitchers official. They are Francesco Pomponi, Brian Severino and Marco Pascoli, with the first two having already carried out the inaugural training directed by Doriano Bindi yesterday and the third who will arrive in the next few weeks together with the other players.

The Titan team shuffles the cards for a more competitive 2024 championship in the first phase, but which always sees the same three favorites as in recent years at the starting line: the reigning Italian champions Bologna, Parma and San Marino itself. Francesco Pomponi, born in 2002, has already had the opportunity to play quality innings in Serie A with the shirts of Parma, where he comes from (16.2 innings in 2023), and Oltretorrente (13 starts in 2022). “It’s a start with positive feelings – he says -. I can’t wait to get to know all the other teammates, create a good group and all get to the final goal together. I want to give my best, throw a good number of innings and give my full contribution to the team’s result.” For him he will turn 22 in May, as well as for Brian Severino, equally new reinforcement of Mount Afi.

Even Severino, like Pomponi, has already wet his nose in Serie A. He did so with the uniforms of Crocetta (2022) and Codogno (2023), with the latter year which saw him on the mound for 18 games (9 from departing). “There are good feelings in this start – says Severino –. Being called by a team like San Marino is an important goal, one that you imagine and dream of since you were a child. I am very happy to be here. I like being a team player and give a hand where it’s needed. All my commitment is in this direction, as well as wanting to learn a lot from players with great experience.”

The third reinforcement of the Italian team is Marco Pascoli, a 29-year-old from Campidonico Grizzlies Torino with whom he played the last three seasons of Serie A. For him a 2023 with 4 games won and 1 lost, while in the total of the three years with the Grizzlies he achieved record an average Era of 3.25 with 15 total saves.
