Saïd Chabane (Angers) sentenced to two years in prison for sexual assault

More than three months after a tense hearing in Angers, the decision of the criminal court fell on Friday. The owner and former president of Angers SCO was sentenced to two years in prison, one of which was suspended.

This decision was taken “because of the nature of the facts, their multiplicity, and the contexts in which they were committed”, justified the president of the court, Catherine Ménardais, in comments reported by Ouest France. The deliberation was initially expected on February 16 but the deadline was extended by five weeks due to the absence of the president.

Chabane will appeal the judgment

The owner and former president of Angers SCO was tried last December for aggravated sexual assault. Seven women filed complaints against him. During the trial held on December 18 and 19, five spoke of forced touching and kissing, but also their fear of a man of influence.

As reported by Ouest-France and Le Courrier de l’Ouest, the leader was not present when the deliberations were announced. His lawyers have already indicated that they will appeal.
