The DFB Cup is an important German football tournament. Teams from lower leagues are also allowed to play in the DFB Cup. Saarbrücken won 2-1 in the quarter-finals against Gladbach. Saarbrücken has thus thrown three Bundesliga teams out of the cup – namely FC Bayern, Eintracht Frankfurt and now Gladbach.
In the semi-finals of the DFB Cup, Saarbrücken will now play against second division club FC Kaiserslautern. In the other semi-final, Bundesliga table leaders Leverkusen will play against second division team Fortuna Düsseldorf.
The game in Saarbrücken had to be rescheduled because it rained too much on the first date. The turf in the stadium was under water.
