Russell Wilson Signs with Pittsburgh Steelers: A New Beginning for the Veteran Quarterback

Russell Wilson was released a couple of weeks ago by the Denver Broncos after two seasons in which he failed to take them to the playoffs.

The quarterback arrived in Denver after spending a decade in Seattle, a team he led to two games for the Vince Lombardi Trophy, of which he won one.

With Denver he did not meet expectations, even losing the starting job at the end of last season.

Now he joins the Steelers who are led by coach Mike Tomlin, with whom he will try to enhance his offense, something he said he is excited about.

“As soon as I made the decision to come here I texted Kenny and told him, ‘Every day we go out let’s be the best version of ourselves to try to make this team better,'” Wilson said of what he shared with Kenny Pickett, with whom he will compete to be a starter in the Steelers.

The 35-year-old veteran born in Cincinnati, Ohio, came to the NFL selected in the third round of the 2012 Draft by the Seahawks.

In 13 years in the NFL he has been to the Pro Bowl nine times and won the Walter Payton-NFL Man of the Year trophy in 2020.

He has played 188 games as a starter with a record of 116 wins, 72 losses and one tie in the regular season, which places him in first place among active quarterbacks.

He also has 43,653 yards passing (which places him number 19 in NFL history), 334 touchdowns (which places him in position 13 all time) and 106 interceptions. Per carry he has gained 5,307 yards (the third best record in history for a quarterback) and 29 touchdowns.

He is the only quarterback in the NFL to pass for more than 40,000 yards and surpass 5,000 yards per carry.
