Runners Vaičule and Pastors do not reach the semi-finals at the World Indoor Championships / Article

Vaičule finished fifth in the preliminaries after 53.09 seconds, ahead of one competitor with his best result of the season. Dutch sprinter Lieke Klavere, one of the main favorites in the discipline, was the fastest in the race, finishing in 51.31 seconds, achieving the best result in the preliminary round.

According to the results of the preliminaries, Vaičule ranked 17th, but 14 athletes will continue the fight in the semi-finals. Vaichuli was 0.17 seconds away from advancing to the next round.

The two fastest participants of each preliminary race and the four best sprinters in the competition of the other runners made it to the semi-finals.

For the men, Pastors finished fourth in his race in 47.53 seconds, beating his personal best by eight hundredths of a second. The result of the fastest participant of the run, the Belgian Alexander Dom, was 46.11 seconds.

In the overall standings, Pastors reached 16th place, half a second behind the semi-final. The best result in the preliminaries was provided by the Czech Matej Krsek, finishing in 46.07 seconds.

The World Championship in Scotland will end on Sunday, March 3. Vaičule and Pastors are the only representatives of Latvia in the championship.
