Royce O’Neale’s Unusual Trade Deadline Surprise: Learning of Transfer While Playing Call of Duty

After Evan Fournier who learned of his transfer to the Pistons in a hammam, here is another unusual trade deadline special episode. Royce O’Neale, sent from the Nets to the Suns on February 8, was… playing Call of Duty when his agent called him to warn him.

Royce O’Neale is one of those NBA players who can be placed in the gamer category. On Twitch or offline, the 3&D winger likes to let off steam on games like NBA 2K, Warzone, and therefore Call of Duty.

During an interview on the show Run It BackO’Neale says he learned of his transfer in the middle of playing CoD.

“I was actually playing Call of Duty. I didn’t follow all the rumors about me. But my friends called me, my agent called me. This happened in the middle of the game. I put the controller down and told my friends I had to go. It happened so quickly, but I’m excited for this new opportunity.”

We can imagine the scene very well.

If his daily life was inevitably turned upside down by this transfer at the deadline, Royce O’Neale has had the skill of a sniper since his arrival at the Suns: 38.6% parking success rate for 9 points on average, all with good defense. In short, typically the kind of profile that the Suns were looking for to accompany Kevin Durant, Devin Booker and Bradley Beal.

Royce particularly shone against the Lakers last Sunday, with 20 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 block and 2 interceptions at 6/10 at 3-points.
