Rouen Tennis Open: Exciting Program and Talented Players Take Center Stage

Talented players, an attractive program: the outlines of the Rouen Tennis Open are becoming clearer. Its director, Charles Roche, is the guest of France Bleu Normandie this Friday.

The Rouen Tennis Open is approaching: the exclusively women’s tennis tournament will take place from April 13 to 21. It will take place at Kindarena, with a good part of the field announced. “We are particularly satisfied,” reacts this Friday on France Bleu Normandie, Charles Roche, the tournament director. “I think we are meeting expectations with this field, since the last player entering this year would not have been able to participate in the tournament last year. So we are really in a new category with a field which is just exceptional .”

There will be the three best French players including Caroline Garcia, the number 1 still in the top 10 a few months ago, and a former world number 1. “We are really very happy,” confirms Charles Roche, who explains that the rise in the WTA 250 category had a strong impact.

A rise in category which was made thanks to a “Call for applications launched during last year’s edition. We went to knock on the door of the WTA to tell them that it was definitely a project that interested us. We had to bring together the partners so that there could be have financial guarantees to present and then attract the WTA. We had to jostle together because we were several cities in the running. We won this candidacy. This is something that has only been done 4 times by a French city in the modern era of tennis. So it’s a real success.”

Rouen therefore becomes the third tournament in France. “I will say that the first two editions helped us a lot. When we applied, we already had some guarantees. We have a lot of assets. So there you have it, the players are delighted to come to Kindarena. The hotel park is also ready , this was part of the specifications.

On the budget side, “It has doubled between the last edition and this new edition. Today, we have a tournament with a sporting field which is also much more attractive, with media coverage which is also global since we will now be broadcast in 50 countries in the world, including 10 million viewers.”
