Rookie Victor Wembanyama Shines in Record-Breaking Performance, French Players Stand Out in NBA Games

The player: a record Wembanyana overcomes the Knicks

To overcome the New York Knicks, Victor Wembanyama was in the oven and in the mill. Author of a historic match, certainly his best in his career, the French interior passed the 40 point mark for the first time, and added 20 rebounds. He is the first rookie to achieve such a performance since Shaquille O’Neal in 1993.

And he didn’t do it in the most affordable of matches. Facing him, an absolutely untenable Jalen Brunson almost stole the show (61 points). But it was his San Antonio Spurs who won after overtime (130-126). And it was even Wemby who definitively sealed the victory with a big three-point shot a minute from the buzzer.

The match: Authoritarian Minnesota against Denver

In the shock of the evening at the top of the Western Conference, it was the Minnesota Timberwolves who won over the Denver Nuggets (111-98). Barely three weeks before the start of the play-offs, the current leader in the West led from start to finish against the outgoing champion.

Carried by a back line Mike Conley – Anthony Edwards author of 48 points in total (23 for Conley, 25 for Edwards), Rudy Gobert’s teammates dominated on both sides of the field. Opposite, Nikola Jokic, bothered by his wrist, seemed far from his best form.

Performance: the Heat sticks +60 to the Trail Blazers!

It was certainly the Miami Heat who signed the card of the evening. Opposed to the freewheeling Portland Trail Blazers, the Floridians finished the meeting with a gap of 60 points (142-82), the largest in the history of the franchise. An especially collective success, with five players scoring more than 15 points.

They also took the opportunity to build up their confidence before the play-offs. Currently seventh in the Eastern Conference, the latest NBA finalists were not content with a fiery attack, but also stifled their opponent on defense.

The French: Gobert dominant, Rupert continues

Five French people played in the NBA last night. If Victor Wembanyama signed his points record, he was not the only one to perform. In the Timberwolves’ victory, Rudy Gobert scored 21 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in addition to 3 blocks. Rayan Rupert started again with Portland. Despite his team’s big defeat, he compiled 6 points (3/5), 4 rebounds and 3 assists.

Coming off the bench with the Detroit Pistons, Evan Fournier scored 10 points and 2 rebounds in his team’s victory against Washington. Nicolas Batum was also valuable with the 76ers: 8 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists against the Cavs (117-114 defeat).
