Rookie Judoka Matilde Maria Mercuri Takes 4th Place in National Wrestling Championship

Competing in a national event and taking 4th place on debut is a lot for a rookie. Applause goes to the little judoka of Cus Macerata Matilde Maria Mercuri, born in 2012, who has just participated in the Italian Under15 wrestling championship. The Italian event was held at the PalaPellicone in Ostia and saw just under 400 athletes competing between boys and girls from all over the peninsula, divided between Greco-Roman and men’s and women’s freestyle. Mercuri, on loan to Cus from Judo Porto San Giorgio, tried her hand at Greco-Roman with a weight limit of 39 kg and played excellent challenges. Despite the tension, due to the location and the new fighting style and despite the strong competition (category with more athletes), Matilde fought like a lioness until the end, losing the final for third place by a whisker.
