Rodrigo Bentancur Plays with Fracture to Compete in Copa América

Former Boca midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur admitted that he has been playing with a fracture for almost a month at English club Tottenham, but he did not undergo surgery due to the risk it would imply for his presence in the Copa América in the United States in June and July with the Uruguayan National Team led by Marcelo Bielsa.

“I broke the little toe on my left foot three weeks ago, but I’m still playing the same,” confirmed the Uruguayan at the Canal 12 Sports Center in Montevideo this Sunday. The London club offered him surgery, which the midfielder opposed due to his desire to be in the national team competition.

The injury occurred during the week prior to the confrontation between Spurs and Crystal Palace on March 2 for matchday 27 of the Premier League. In that match, Argentine Cristian Romero dressed as a scorer to turn the match around and lead the score to 3-1 at home.

17 minutes into the second half of that match, Bentancur had to be replaced by Brennan Johnson. From that moment on, he is an alternative for coach Angelos Postecoglou, but when he plays he does so with a special bandage: “I’m improving and when I warm up I don’t notice it. I didn’t want to stop, so I’m recovering little by little.”
