Remembering Judo Master Guy Ruelle: A Final Farewell

Church of Villa San Martino packed yesterday for the final farewell to Guy Ruelle, master and true soul of Judo from Pesaro, who died at the age of 68 after fighting an incurable disease. Many of his students and friends were present, including the president of the Judo Fazi Club Pesaro, Francesco Balducci, the regional president of the Judo section, Angelo Mercanti, the representatives of the San Marino federation, and in the front row Camilla, Monica, Luciana, Filippo and Andrea who followed him until the very end. Officiating was Don Lorenzo Volponi who in his homily remembered his beloved Ruelle, concluding: “We salute the master of judo par excellence who meets the master of life”.

At the end, Camilla and Monica spoke, having adopted Guy’s dog: “Hi Guy, we want to greet you, remembering that you were the point of reference for children and young people who loved judo, like you. a national athlete, a coach who spent a good part of his life on the tatami, training generations of athletes, then becoming an international referee, animated by a passion that only a good teacher could convey. We remember your happiness when the president of the national federation called you to award you yet another master’s diploma. Today we want to thank all those people who helped you and us during the difficult period you have experienced recently and who supported us in raising funds. We want to thank the Fossombrone Hospice, where you became the mascot and you were looked after in the best way, with humanity and professionalism. Thanks to Ant, Nina and Lidia who took care of you at home. And today, as you explicitly requested, we are here to tell everyone that your wish was for us to live this day as a celebration and to toast together for a final farewell. Hello maestro”. Then a moved Angelo Mercanti intervened, praising his friend Ruelle and reading the message from the regional president of Fijlkam, Marco Masi: “Nothing and no one will ever be able to take away from my mind your excited look when we handed you the Master’s diploma, a dutiful recognition that you cared a lot about. A promise that I made to you and that with Angelo we managed to realize. You leave us the consolation and hope of having alleviated your final suffering and made you feel our closeness in facing your illness. Bye Guy, bye Maestro, have a good trip”. Guy is now resting in the Central Cemetery of Pesaro.
