Real Madrid player Vinicius Junior faced alleged racist insults, Osasuna denies racism in response

Three days after Real Madrid player Vinicius Junior was allegedly the victim of racist insults during the match against Osasuna, the Pamplona club denied their existence in a press release. The 12th in Liga recognized and condemned the insults uttered by supporters in the El Sadar stadium, but denied their racist nature:

“Osasuna would like to clarify that no racist chants were uttered during Saturday’s match. The club will not tolerate the reputation of Osasuna supporters – known for their anti-racist stance – being tarnished. Osasuna wants to show its rejection of the insults – which had no racist references – that a minority uttered last Saturday in El Sadar. The club rejects these chants which, unfortunately, its players also have to endure when they travel to other La Liga stadiums. »

While Real Madrid filed a complaint against Juan Martínez Munuera, the referee of the match, for having forgotten to mention these insults in his report, the Technical Commission of Referees (CTA) of the Spanish Federation supported the referee, declaring that the accusations of Real Madrid were ” unjust”.

“The CTA would like to express its full and unconditional support to the first division referee, Mr. Juan Martínez Munuera, following the unfair accusations made by Real Madrid […] We must clarify that once the audios of the match were viewed, no Real Madrid player gave any indication on this subject and, after the match, the club delegate did not inform the referee of any incident linked to these cries or songs. »
