Carlo Ancelotti faces several years in prison for tax fraud. As the responsible public prosecutor’s office in Madrid announced on Wednesday, it is demanding a prison sentence of four years and nine months against the Italian coach of the Spanish soccer record champions Real Madrid. Last year, a court ordered Ancelotti to stand trial for the first time, but a date has not yet been set.
The public prosecutor’s office accuses the 64-year-old of not having paid taxes on income from image rights generated in 2014. This emerges from a document from a court in the Spanish capital seen by the AFP news agency.
Only trainer salary stated
According to the tax office’s allegations, Ancelotti reported his salary as coach of Real Madrid in the 2014 tax year, but not income from his image rights or other related income.
“Although he self-declared himself to be a tax resident in Spain and indicated that his residence is in Madrid, he only reported in his tax returns the personal remuneration received from Real Madrid,” the authority said in a statement. She accuses Ancelotti of setting up a “confusing” system of shell companies to hide the additional income.
Ancelotti was under contract with Bayern Munich from July 2016 to September 2017, other coaching positions include SSC Napoli, Paris St. Germain and FC Chelsea. Since 2021 he has been working again as coach of Real Madrid, which he coached from 2013 to 2015. He recently extended his contract again until the summer of 2026.
