Raphael Wicky relieved of coaching duties as Young Boys Bern faces challenges

Youngs Boys Bern’s season isn’t actually that bad: The club leads the Swiss Super League, qualified in the CL ahead of Red Star Belgrade and behind RB Leipzig and Manchester City for the EL intermediate round, where they failed at Sporting.

Despite everything, the club decides to make a change on the sidelines. Raphael Wicky is on leave. The reason for this is three defeats in a row.

“The separation from Raphael Wicky hurts us very much. But after careful consideration, we came to the conclusion that the situation is deadlocked and the team needs fresh energy in order to be able to take the challenging path back to success,” says sports director Christoph Spycher.

Different approaches to solutions

Sports director Steve von Bergen says: “Raphael Wicky and I made another assessment on Sunday evening and realized that we had different approaches to how we could find our way out of this difficult situation.”

Wicky took over the club in 2022 and led it to the championship title last year. Now it’s over.
