Friedrich had never won in the four-man bobsleigh in Lake Placid. Now he wins in a race that is over prematurely.

Francesco Friedrich won his sixth overall World Cup victory in the four-man bobsleigh. At the season finale in Lake Placid, he also won for the first time with the large sled on the challenging track at Mount van Hoevenberg, where the world championships will take place next winter.

With his crew Thorsten Margis, Matthias Sommer and Felix Straub, the 33-year-old from BSC Sachsen Oberbärenburg relegated Johannes Lochner from Berchtesgaden to second place with a lead of 0.17 seconds. Adam Ammour from BRC Thuringia came third in the US state of New York.

The race was interrupted in the second round after a fall because the track was damaged. Since there wasn’t enough time for repairs, it was stopped after about half an hour and only the first run was counted. With his fifth win of the season in the premier class, the two-time double Olympic champion confidently took victory in the overall classification ahead of the Latvian Emils Cipulis and Lochner, who had one less race after his crash in Altenberg.
