Quintana Roo Delegation Shines with Five Gold Medals at Judo Championship in Mérida

Merida. Yuc. Mar 23, 2024 / As part of its preparation and to acquire experience, the Quintana Roo delegation in the Judo discipline had a “brilliant” participation in the “2024 International Open Student Championship”, which was held in the city of Mérida, Yucatán and where a total of 13 medals were awarded: five gold, 1 silver and 7 bronze.

The state team was made up of 20 judokas, who participated in the Higher Education and Higher Secondary categories with positive results.

The five golds for Quintana Roo came from Iliana Naomi Pozo Flores in the -63 kilos; Another medal was won by Valeria Isabel Escalante Tamayo in the -44 kilograms, both in the Superior division; in addition to Sharon Estrella

On the other hand, in the -90 kilos category of the Upper Medium, the one who won the silver medal was Edgar Merlán Pérez.

In more results for the Quintana Roo team, they also achieved seven bronze medals, where Emiliano Escalante Pérez stood out in -81 kilos of the Superior; as well as Mariana Carolina Ruiz Pérez in less than 52 kilograms, Melissa González Castro in less than 57, Shahin Alexander Fonseca Quintero in less than 60, Kevin Iván del Ángel Hernández in less than 73, Darinel Alexander Escamilla in less than 73 and Miguel Adolfo Núñez Tun in less than 81, all of them in the Upper Middle division.
