Defender Leopold Querfeld will make his debut in the senior team of the Austrian Football Association (ÖFB) on Saturday (from 5:40 p.m., live on ORF1) in the friendly away against Slovakia. Team boss Ralf Rangnick announced this on Friday at the press conference in Bratislava. The 20-year-old SK Rapid defender has made eleven appearances for the ÖFB U21 team so far.
“He will play from the start. He also earned it through his performance at Rapid. And this week in the training camp he has also done well,” explained the 65-year-old German. In addition to Querfeld, Kevin Danso (Lens) is likely to start in Bratislava, Flavius Daniliuc (Salzburg) could come on as a substitute, as Rangnick indicated.
In addition to the long-term injured captain David Alaba, the team boss is also missing Philipp Lienhart (knee problems) in central defense for a short time, while Gernot Trauner (thigh injury) and Samson Baidoo (syndesmotic tear in the ankle) are not there in the center of defense.
