Queen’s Gaels Advance to U SPORTS Greenshield Ultimate 8 Final Four in Thrilling Victory

In a hotly contested duel at the PEPS at Laval University, the Queen’s Gaels qualified for the final four of the U SPORTS Greenshield Ultimate 8 presented by Michelob Ultra by winning 77-76 over the Winnipeg Wesmen on Friday after -noon.

Trailing by six points with less than two minutes to go, the Canada West conference finalists made the end of the match exciting by scoring five unanswered points to bring the gap back to a small point. The Wesmen also had the opportunity to cause everyone’s surprise by taking one last shot as the last seconds were ticking, but in vain.

The latter had also started the match on a high note by grabbing a ten-point lead quickly in the second quarter. The Ontario champions, however, turned things around with a streak of 15 consecutive points to finally retreat to the locker room ahead by eight.

Five Gaels players reached ten points in the victory, including Cameron Bett’s 16 in the first half. His last three points came on a throw from the center of the field as the siren sounded.

The Gaels will face well-known opponents in the semi-final as they face the Ottawa Gee-Gees, who defeated the Citadins de l’UQAM in the first quarter-final match of the day.
