PSSI is confused that Persib Bandung wants the match against Persija Jakarta to have spectators

Yunus Nusi assesses that the match between Persib and Persija carries a high risk from a security perspective.

PSSI Secretary General Yunus Nusi hopes that Persib Bandung will continue to follow the decision of the disciplinary committee (Komdis) regarding the ban on matches attended by spectators when facing Persija Jakarta this weekend in the continuation of Liga 1 2023/24.

Persib filed an appeal against the PSSI Komdis decision which imposed a ban on holding a match with the presence of spectators. The Komdis issued this decision regarding riots and abuse outside the stadium perimeter carried out by supporters after the duel against PSIS Semarang at the Si Jalak Harupat Stadium on February 27 2024.

This decision means that spectators will not be able to attend Persib’s home matches against Persija, which is the Flower City club’s eternal rival.

“Today (yesterday) Persib has sent a letter of application to the PSSI Appeals Committee. “We hope that the Appeals Committee can grant Persib’s request to cancel the PSSI Disciplinary Committee’s sanctions,” said PT Persib Bandung Bermartabat Andang Ruhiat, vice president of pperational, as reported on the club’s official website.

Persib’s attitude makes PSSI a little dizzy. The reason is, matches between Persib and Persija are often heated. It doesn’t just happen on the pitch, but also off it.

“We will do everything procedurally, because this also involves a very big risk. “Of course we will accommodate suggestions and opinions from various elements, and we also have to reflect on several incidents,” explained Yunus Nusi.

“We also don’t want to lose out again, because incidents like, sorry, Kanjuruhan really hit the federation hard. We also hope that in the future friends will restrain each other. [Klub] “We also have to understand that when PSSI makes a decision without spectators, it’s appropriate to comply with that, understand that.”

“We can see for ourselves, regarding the regulations for away fans at home, their opponents sometimes come in with incorrect methods. We are worried about this, because FIFA is still monitoring it in the context of transforming Indonesian football. We are worried that if there is an incident similar to the previous incident, this will have fatal consequences for our federation.”
