PSG offers itself a new Classic against OM at the Vélodrome despite the early expulsion of Beraldo

The match: 0-2

In a fairly baroque Classic, under heavy rain and refereeing decisions that were not always obvious, PSG continued their series against OM this Sunday. Although jostled by sequences, the Parisians won at the Vélodrome (2-0) thanks to two goals scored after the break, by Vitinha (53rd) and Gonçalo Ramos (85th).

Marseille, which was undefeated in 19 home matches in all competitions (13 wins, 6 draws), may regret not having been able to be sharp in its highlights. Untouchable leader of L1, with 12 points ahead of Brest, PSG will have to manage a new episode Kylian Mbappé, captain at kick-off but incredulous when Luis Enrique sent him off (64th).

With Ousmane Dembélé in false 9, to leave Randal Kolo Muani on the right and Mbappé on the left, PSG almost hit the mark from the start, when Dembélé alerted “RKM”, whose good cross behind was wasted by Fabian Ruiz ( 5th). But behind, the Parisians took a long time to break away from Marseille’s grip, to the great fury of Luis Enrique, exasperated to see his block so low. On three occasions, a Danilo close to the CSC (6th), a save from Donnarumma in front of Aubameyang (14th) and a shot from Veretout which licked the outside of the left post (17th), OM showed their fangs, and the Parisian environment appeared to have great difficulty stopping the leaks.

While the strange expulsion of Parisian defender Lucas Beraldo (40th, see below) ignited the debates, with three other Parisians warned in the process (Hernandez, Danilo, Donnarumma), Paris seemed to take advantage of this fact of play to speed up after the break. After a double opportunity from Hakimi then from Dembélé (49th), Vitinha opened the scoring with a serve from the unfathomable Dembélé (53rd, see below). Stunned on the spot, the Vélodrome roared with an equalizer from Jordan Veretout (58th)… finally canceled by the VAR, for an offside by Luis Henrique, who was acting according to Mr. Bastien (58th). In this decidedly bizarre part, the animation also came from the surprising choice of Luis Enrique to take out Kylian Mbappé and Ousmane Dembélé (64th), who went to the shower.

OM then put crazy pressure on the Parisian camp, with several chances (73rd, 76th, 77th, 79th, 81st, 84, 87th), but a great Gianluigi Donnarumma decided otherwise. It was in a strong moment in Marseille that Paris finally folded the suspense, with a lightning counter concluded by Gonçalo Ramos, well offset by Marco Asensio (85th).

The player: Dembélé visible but…

Aligned as a false nine, as in the round of 16 second leg of the Champions League against Real Sociedad (2-1), Ousmane Dembélé had a rather special match. The elusive No. 10 increased his lead at the top of the Ligue 1 passer rankings, with a delight on the ball behind Vitinha (53rd), after a double one-two with him. But if he was excellent in the role of passer (5th, 29th) and dynamiter, Dembélé was on the other hand disappointing, to say the least, on two actions that he should have concluded (30th, 49th). He seemed better in the second half, when he returned to the right side, but Luis Enrique therefore took him out at the same time as Mbappé (64th).

The fact: Beraldo’s strange red card

Arriving this winter at PSG, Lucas Beraldo will not remember his first Classic. The Brazilian was sent off before half-time (40th) for a shoulder duel with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, whom he pushed off the field. The referee of the match, Benoît Bastien, was called by the VAR and considered, after seeing the images, that this contact deserved a direct red card, considering that Beraldo had annihilated a clear opportunity. The defender had received a yellow card earlier in the game for an obstruction on Aubameyang (15th), and the referee surely kept this action in mind. But the Parisian staff did not understand this red card at all, for an unclear fault. PSG football advisor Luis Campos notably lost his nerves at the break.
