PSG is planning a spectacular farewell to Nikola Karabatic

Paris Saint-Germain is giving French handball legend Nikola Karabatic a fitting farewell. The last championship game in the unique career of the four-time world champion and three-time Olympic champion (May 31) was moved to the Accor Arena in the Bercy district in honor of Karabatics. This was announced by the undisputed league leader. PSG faces Pays d’Aix UC in the final game of the season.

“This big event is an opportunity to pay tribute to Nikola Karabatic,” said manager Thierry Omeyer and announced: “It will be a fitting tribute to the legend he has become throughout his career.” The arena in Bercy has a capacity of 20,000 spectators and, among other things, hosts the tennis masters and, in the summer, the gymnastics competitions and basketball games of the Olympic Games. PSG actually plays its home games in the Stade Pierre de Coubertin multi-purpose hall.

Karabatic, who turns 40 on April 11, has been playing for Paris for nine years. Before that, he played for THW Kiel (four German championship titles) and FC Barcelona, among others.

He made his debut for the national team in 2002 and since then, in addition to four World Cup golds and three Olympic gold medals, he has also won four European Championship titles, the last in January in Cologne.

The game against his former club Pays d’Aix UC should not be the big finale in Karabatic’s career. PSG is still in the race for the Final Four of the Champions League in Cologne, which will take place on June 8th and 9th at the Lanxess Arena.

In the European premier class, Karabatic has only triumphed three times (2003 with Montpellier, 2007 with Kiel and 2015 with Barcelona).
