Predictions for the 2024 MLB Season: MVP and Cy Young Winners

The 2024 Major League Baseball season is just around the corner and that is why it is time to give predictions for the next campaign.

For this reason, MLB.com consulted the Baseball Writers Association of North America (BBWAA) for its predictions in 2024 for: Most Valuable Player and Cy Young Award.

Juan Soto and Mookie Betts as the MVPs

Dominican Juan Soto slightly surpassed his compatriot and Seattle Mariners superstar, Julio Rodríguez, in the voting.

And although Soto has led the Majors in passes negotiated in each of the last three seasonswith Aaron Judge following him in the lineup, Soto’s impact with the bat could rise to a higher level.

For its part, Mookie Betts could also lean on the Los Angeles lineup, with Shohei Ohtani and Freddie Freeman. Betts, who was already recognized as the AL MVP with the Red Sox in 2018, last year nearly turned an impressive second half of the season into another MVP honor.

The seven-time All-Star and six-time Gold Glove winner posted a .987 OPS with a career-high 39 home runs in 2023. He ultimately finished second in NL MVP voting, behind Venezuelan Ronald Acuña Jr., who was a close second in our poll this year.

Cy Young winners Corbin Burnes and Spencer Strider

The right Corbin Burnes was the top selection in this categorywith voters watching the 2021 AL Cy Young Award winner take the AL honor in his first season with Baltimore.

Since becoming a full-time starter in 2021, Burnes has struck out at least 200 batters each season and posted a 2.94 ERA over that span. Burnes, now the Orioles’ ace, is projected to have a great first season with his new club.

Another resounding election and it seems to be a matter of time before Strider wins the Cy Young Award. The right-hander finished fourth in voting for the award last year, then led the majors with 281 strikeouts in 186.2 innings.

Although his ERA worsened last year to 3.86, his FIP was better than that figure by more than a run at 2.85, which was the best in the league. Our voters see Strider pulling it all together in 2024.
