Manchester City is keeping a very close eye on Jarrad Branthwaite’s actions, the Daily Mail reports. The 21-year-old Everton defender, who was loaned to PSV last season, may be in line for a top transfer in the summer. In addition to the Citizens, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Real Madrid have also shown interest in Branthwaite.

Manchester City has several top defenders under contract, but that does not stop Pep Guardiola’s club from potentially strengthening itself further in the summer. The Citizens reportedly believe Branthwaite has the same qualities as John Stones, who has been used extensively as a defensive midfielder this season.

If the blue club from Manchester does indeed want to strengthen itself in the summer, it will face competition from Manchester United, Tottenham and Real Madrid. Erik ten Hag’s club in particular is keen on Branthwaite, it sounds. Sky Sports reported a few weeks ago that the ex-PSV player is the top priority for the Red Devils this summer.

Manchester United would be willing to pay around 85 million euros for Branthwaite. To finance his arrival, Harry Maguire and Raphaël Varane would have to leave Old Trafford. Maguire was the subject of strong interest from West Ham United last summer, but a deal did not get off the ground. Varane is out of contract with the Mancunians this summer.

Branthwaite is having a strong season at Everton, which is currently in sixteenth place in the Premier League due to a points penalty. The left-footer has made 31 appearances for the Toffees so far this campaign and his good performances have been noticed by Gareth Southgate. The England coach included Branthwaite in his selection for the friendlies against Brazil and Belgium.

English media expect the ex-PSV player to make his debut for the national team against Belgium on Tuesday evening. Branthwaite was loaned out to the Eindhoven team last season and played in 36 matches. PSV desperately wanted to keep him last summer, but that turned out to be financially impossible.

Technical director Earnest Stewart therefore decided to switch to Armel Bella-Kotchap. Branthwaite is still with Everton until mid-2027 and is now worth thirty million euros, according to Transfermarkt.
