Poirier knocks out Saint Denis with a right hand and stops the aspirations of the French star

The Frenchman Benoît Saint Denis started as a betting favorite for the co-main event of UFC 299 despite facing a true UFC legend. However, Dustin Poirier got the better of him and achieved victory with a brutal KO in a wild fight from start to finish.

In the first round, the French star came out like a beast, demonstrating why he has become one of the most talked about fighters in the UFC. ‘The god of war’ stopped to exchange with Porier, who attempted a guillotine in the early stages of the fight. It was a frenetically paced round, very even, with a lot of punches and several submission attempts.

During the break, Poirier received clear instructions in his corner, where he was told to stick to the plan: boxing and low kicks. But, for some reason, the one from Louisiana – despite the instructions of his coach – insisted on trying to guillotine his rival. This was also the case at the beginning of the second round, where after connecting with the Frenchman, he unsuccessfully tried again and ended up below him, where the Frenchman grabbed his back to finish him off with a hammer blow. Then, after a few seconds in which it seemed that ‘the Diamond’ had ruined the fight, he managed to regain his position.

Already on top, Poirier first connected a left crochet that made the ‘God of War’ stagger, and right after it was a brutal right hand to the chin that knocked Saint down for the first time in his career.

Poirier suffered a lot to carry out the fight with an opponent who proved to be up to the challenge. However, the American made it clear why he is one of the best in the lightweight division. ‘The Diamond’ was coming off a painful defeat against Justin Gaethje, who knocked him out with a spectacular high kick and left him without the BMF belt. With this spectacular victory, the American manages to regain his sensations. Poirier comes out of this fight with a record of 30-8 and 15 victories by knockout, he remains at number three in the rankings and puts an end to the hype around Saint Denis in one fell swoop.
