Sport is good, sport is good, sport is fun. In the fresh air, in the hall – and in the club. The Hesse State Sports Association has presented fresh figures. In Frankfurt’s Otto-Fleck-Schneise, the heart of organized sport, there is great joy among the men and women in charge, as well as among the countless volunteers in the country who put their heart and soul into their work.
The number of members has increased again. Once again, almost 77,000 additional people, in addition to the 2.2 million, have decided to play sports under the umbrella of a club. This is pleasing and at the same time proof that the LSB has taken the right steps.
Always a sports country
Corona and energy aid, the start of an education offensive: Under the leadership of President Juliane Kuhlmann, the tanker LSB has stayed on course on the path taken by her predecessor Rolf Müller and continued to gain momentum. It is also helpful that funding of around nine million euros has been distributed.
Hesse has always been a sports country. Previous sporting interior ministers such as Volker Bouffier and most recently Peter Beuth have given organized sport a lot of support. The new Sports Minister Diana Stolz would be well advised to follow the example of her predecessors, because “sports clubs are an enrichment, source of inspiration and driver of integration for our society,” as she recently emphasized. Expressed in numbers: The state government supports sport at the grassroots level, in clubs and municipalities, with around 66.8 million euros. “Promoting sport in Hesse continues to be a priority,” said the minister.

In 2023, the LSB succeeded in convincing younger people in particular to play sports in the club. Percentage increases of up to twelve percent for children up to the age of six are encouraging figures. Of the almost 77,000 new members who have joined a sports club, 25,000 are between seven and 14 years old. The offspring is on the move.
