Player Ratings: France vs Germany Friendly Match

Brice Samba : 5

He can’t do much on the two goals where Wirtz shoots him and Musiala makes him dance. Too often abandoned by his defense, he has the merit of stringing together three big minutes between a nice headline on a strike from Maximilian Mittelstädt (78th) and a one-handed save in front of Thomas Müller (80th). Without him, the bill could have been even higher.

  • In short… A good reaction.

Jules Koundé: 4

If Germany chose the opposite side or the axis to pierce the Blues, Koundé also proved that he had difficulty positioning himself on the opposing offensives. The former Bordeaux player, too rarely on the trajectories, never took off the brakes and he never offered an emergency solution to Ousmane Dembélé.

  • In short… Discreet if not transparent.

Replaced by Jonathan Clauss (60th).

Benjamin Pavard: 3

Eaten by Wirtz at the start of the match, often far from his attacker, he seemed to walk on eggshells with Dayot Upamecano. The lack of communication between the two men cost the two goals. The hinge was much too nice and docile. Pavard missed a chance to shine in the center like the second goal where he covered Musiala.

  • In short… Questions remain about its reliability at the heart of a 4-man defense.

Dayot Upamecano : 3

Where has the boss of the Qatar World Cup gone? On the back foot, he lets Wirtz strike from the 7th second. Of course, he cut a few trajectories (18th 31st) but he is still behind Havertz for the second German goal. Like his painful sequence in Munich.

  • In short… Against the odds.

Lucas Hernandez: 4

He too was completely affected by the events. Apart from a nice return on Havertz (36th), he did not broadcast his usual grinta. On the second German goal, he was behind Musiala and let him slip deep.

  • In short… On the ropes.

Replaced by Théo Hernandez (60th)

Aurélien Tchouaméni: 3.5

Amorphous, too, he suffered the impacts of İlkay Gündogan and Toni Kroos. He never knew which foot to dance on with the ball at his feet and his decisions took far too long. Result, a lot of ammunition left to the opponent and a very messy performance.

  • In short… Never in the tempo of the match.

Replaced by Youssouf Fofana (74th).

“This is one of the biggest collective resignations of the Deschamps era”

Adrien Rabiot: 5.5

The only one to look the Germans in the eye. In a lethargic collective, the Turinese had at least the merit of showing commitment. He recovered a few balls by elbowing while his friends were looking at their socks. He too experienced waste in his offensive choices but we forgive him more easily than the others.

  • In short… The only head sticking out.

Warren Zaire-Emery: 3

We have rarely seen him so lost on the field. The Parisian, so scintillating this season, seemed lost under the German pressure like the opening score he suffered. WZE fell back a lot and lost unusual balls in dangerous areas (50th, 55th). A good period just before the break, but it’s too little to save a failed performance.

I replaced Eduardo Camavinga (60e)

Ousmane Dembélé: 5

It was he who woke up the Blues by bringing insecurity to the German defense. His big rise in fever after the 20th minute had the merit of putting France back on track. But he stopped after the break and even lost a dangerous ball in his area after missing a small bridge (53rd).

  • In short… Twenty minutes which could have turned the match around. In vain.

Replaced by Randal Kolo Muani (83rd)

Kylian Mbappé: 4.5

He initially missed everything but he also created some differences which could not be exploited by a completely transparent Marcus Thuram. He lacked clarity in his decision-making and ultimately produced a match without consistency.

Marcus Thuram : 3

He had to score points and spirits. Instead, he was conspicuous by his inability to find the right place at the right time. Often ahead of schedule, almost always late, he never managed to establish a relationship with Mbappé or Dembélé. Apart from a shot that flew away (20th), and an honest shift for Tchouaméni (58th), he only made bad choices.

  • In short… He lost credit.

Replaced by Olivier Giroud (60th)
