Pistons Rookie Ausar Thompson Dealing with Blood Clot, Out for Season

Selected as the fifth pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, Pistons rookie Ausar Thompson will end the season in the infirmary. The cause of his crime? A blood clot was detected.

As soon as the terms “blood clot” or “blood clot” are used, we can’t help but worry for the player concerned. All-Star Chris Bosh had to end his career at 33, that of young center Christian Koloko (former Raptor) is directly threatened, while Brandon Ingram had to end his 2018-19 season before receiving authorization to play again.

Today, if we are to believe the latest press release from the Pistons, it is Ausar Thompson who must say stop for the same reasons.

Obviously disturbing news, but the career of the Detroit rookie does not seem threatened. Indeed, once the blood clot has been treated, Thompson should be able to restart basketball activities at the end of the regular season with a view to returning to 100% for the 2024-25 campaign.

The fifth pick from the last Draft averages 8.8 points, 6.4 rebounds, 1 block and 1 interception this year in 63 games (38 as a starter, 25 minutes per evening). An encouraging start for Ausar, who was given quite a lot of responsibility in terms of defensive tasks from his first season.

In addition to Thompson, the Pistons will finish the season without Isaiah Stewart. The latter didn’t hit anyone but injured his hamstring during the last game against Boston.
