Piles, champion of Asturias in pairs six years later

Piles once again reigns supreme in the foursome in pairs. The Gijón club won the top category title in Sotrondio this weekend. They did it through Alejandro Nuño and Fernando Villazón, who beat Javi Díaz and Abrahán González, from the Morcín peña, in the final, in a lackluster duel due to the difference in the score (14 to 4), where the champions did not even have They show their best game. Prior to the absolute final, Mario Blanco and Carlos Rodríguez (El Biche) took the Second Category title, beating Alejandro “Guti” and Héctor Gutiérrez (Rozaes) 14 to 6.

Those from Gijón managed to recover a scepter in San Martín del Rey Aurelio that had eluded them since 2018, when Alejandro Nuño and Ángel Ibaseta were champions. What was achieved on Sunday is the third regional in pairs for Nuño, who had previously also won a title with the very champion Bernardo Menéndez when both shared colors in the Villa de Noreña club, back in 2015.

The start of the final was deceptive. Morcín’s team took the lead by winning the first three games. They killed a game of 38 and their opponents lost 37 and 35 in the early stages. From there, monologue without fanfare from the champions. A partial score of 13 to 0, in which there was only one game of 40 pins, left the final to be decided. Morcín erased 26 to end the streak, but it only served to postpone the resounding outcome of the clash by one game, 14 to 4.

The Second Division final will not be remembered for a high level of play either. The president of the Asturian Bowling Federation, Mario Blanco, changed the office for the fort to, accompanied by Carlos Rodríguez, have a peaceful game. At the change of toss the 7 to 1 presaged a duel without much history. Those from Rozaes tried it, going 11 to 6 down, but a last sprint by El Biche earned them the win.

The bolistic weekend began on Saturday in El Berrón. The Sierense bowling alley hosted the final of the most modest category: Third. Daniel Morán and Daniel Arena (Villa de la Sidra-Titi) won the championship as a result of greater success in the decisive moments of a duel marked by failures, but to a certain extent attractive due to equality. Their rivals, Daniel Rodríguez and Armando Alonso, from the Beloncio club, even went ahead on the scoreboard at the end of the first half (7 to 6). However, the change of throw suited the team well, who were much more comfortable placing for their thumb and killing for their hand.

Dani Arena’s role was fundamental when the Piloñeses sang for the hand in the last games. The best example, the definitive game that made the score 14-10. Beloncio sent 39 to win. Arena bowled 27 and left twelve for Dani Morán, who put the finishing touch by getting a great 14 on his second throw.

With these results, El Piles, El Biche and Villa de la Sidra-Titi become the first big winners of the quatreada season, which this weekend begins its most important competition, the quartet league, in search of new champions for its three categories.
