PIF Offers 1 Billion Euros to Merge ATP and WTA Circuits: Ultimatum Given

The Saudi Arabian investment fund PIFHas offered 1 billion of euros for merge the ATP and WTA circuits and has given an ultimatum of ninety days to accept it.

This new joint circuit, according to the newspaper ‘The Telegraph’, would offer equal prizes in tournaments for men and women, something that right now is only reserved for men Grand Slams and for some tournaments like Masters 1.000.

According to the British media, Andrea Gaudenzipresident of the ATP, took advantage of the Indian Wells celebration to convey this news to the nine Masters 1,000 and has already received the support of the All England Cluborganizer of Wimbledon, who sees with good eyes the possibility of matching prizes.

PIF, which already has investments in other sports such as Formula1 and the golfwith the LIV circuit, signed a sponsorship agreement with the ATP a few days ago to be a ‘sponsor’ of Indian Wells, Miami, Madrid, Beijing, the ATP Finals in Turin and the Next Gen Finals in Jeddahin which the best players under 21 years of age meet.

Saudi Arabia’s intention is to achieve a Masters 1,000 in own territoryas well as the celebration of the WTA Finalswhich last year were played in Cancún (Mexico).
