PGA Tour Jaeger deprives Scheffler of hat-trick, Perez 17th in Houston

The German Stephan Jaeger (-12) created a surprise by capturing his first PGA crown during the Texas Children’s Houston Open. He beat five players including Scottie Scheffler (-11), who was aiming for a rare hat-trick on the American circuit. Victor Perez (68 this Sunday, no round above par) took a very good 17th place (-7).

In a tournament of crazy density (10 players in two shots), the trophy went to Stephan Jaeger (35 years old, 135th start on the PGA) who had especially shone on the Korn Ferry Tour until then (six successes). Extremely consistent this week (69, 66, 66, 67), very brilliant on the way out on this last round (-3) before screwing up the pars on the return, the German became the first European since Ian Poulter to s won this Texas Children’s Houston Open while the Argentinian Alejandro Tosti, co-leader at 18, made a fatal bogey. Thomas Detry, Taylor Moore and Tony Finau, also tied for 2nd, lacked putting efficiency to hope to deprive Jaeger of a first victory on the PGA tour.
