Peña Celtista Alcoyana Celebrates Tenth Anniversary: A Tribute to Friendship and Celtic Pride

One of the most unique clubs that have been created in our city celebrated the tenth anniversary. It’s about the Peña Celtista Alcoyana that reminds Oscar Prietoson of a Galician from Vigo who was very fond of Celta and died fourteen years ago at a very young age, 18 years old.

His friend and co-worker, Sergio Cortés, decided to perpetuate his name, thus creating a Celtic club in the city as a memory and tribute to that friendship. Ten years later, The club is still active and not only that, it is, together with the Célticos do Sudeste, based in Alicante, the only two official clubs that Celtismo has in the Valencian Community, Since there is neither a Celta club in Valencia nor in Castellón, the closest one to us is in the province of Tarragona.

Hence, the Peña Celtista Alcoyana Óscar Prieto has members from other towns, such as Elda or Valencia, some of whom came to our city to celebrate this tenth anniversary at a meal that took place at the Savoy Hostel.

The club has about eighty supporters, although only fifteen are active. Its members do not usually miss the celestial club’s trips to the Valencian Community. The most recent was to Mestalla, where they were received by President Marián Mouriño, who presented them with a plaque. On the occasion of these ten years, the only woman to preside over a club in the highest category of professional football, she wrote a letter to thank the loyalty and effort of these Celtic fans who are so many kilometers from Vigo.
