Pedro Romero Delgado Wins 2023 Sports Star Award at Sports Gala

the azagrés Pedro Romero Delgado, Nordic walking champion last summer in Poland, won the 2023 Sports Star award this Wednesday afternoon, during a new edition of the Sports Gala held at the Los Llanos de Estella cultural space. Romero, a member of the Peña Azagresa Mountain Club, was also first in the Spanish Cup last year – four events -, second in the Spanish Championship for Regional Teams, first in the Spanish Individual and Club Championship and first in the Basque Navarra Cup.

He was competing for the award he received along with seven other athletes. They were part of this list of finalists Amaia Torralba Ezkurdia (badminton), Mikel Azcona Ruiz (trial bike), Julen Andueza Valencia (triathlon), Patricia Mazo Marcelino (Olympic shooting), Javier Barcos Garbayo (golf), Vega Cigudosa González (rhythmic gymnastics) and Encarna Garrido Lázaro (archery). In addition to the Sports Star Award, two others were awarded at the gala: the Lifetime Star award to Javier Azanza Pinillos, for his dedication to the world of karate; and the unconditional Estrella, which went to José Luis Azcona for his contribution to the pelota world.

In what has constituted the eighteenth edition of the Sports Gala, organized jointly by the Javier Riezu Jewelry Watchmaker and the Estella City Council and in collaboration with the radio stations Cope Tierra Estella, Cadena 100 and Estella Lizara FM, They have distributed more than 200 diplomas to the most outstanding athletes during the past year in various categories. Some of them have been for especially outstanding individual athletes such as Anne Senosiáin Vergarechea (baloncesto), Atitor Albizu Uriguen (handball), Unai Esparza Garín (cycling), Laura Montoya There (badminton), Iraia Pascual Benito (rhythmic gymnastics), Blanca Canton Cadarso (badminton), Alaia Estévez Berné (canicross), Amaia Esparza Garín (cycling), Jose Luis Iriarte Larumbe (archery), Carlos Manuel Sota García (archery), Patricia Zugasti Osés (soccer), Garazi Facila Giralte (football and Amaia Arróniz Gastón (handball).

Several municipal representatives attended a gala attended by Xabier Larraya on behalf of the Navarro Sports Institute. During the event, the Andrés Beraza and Belarts dance schools performed, as well as students from the Julián Romano de Estella Music School. There has also been an exhibition by the Lizar Trail Bici Club.
