Racing style Pedro Acosta reminds Marc Marquez of his passionate youth in MotoGP in the 2013 season.
In the two 2024 MotoGP races, Acosta attracted attention. In the race in Qatar, this 19 year old young man from Spain overtook Marquez before finally dropping again.
However, in the second race in Portugal, Acosta didn’t want to fall into the same hole. After overtaking Marquez, the KTM RC16 rider also caught up with Francesco Bagnaia.
Twice competing directly with Acosta, Marquez felt a surge of adrenaline. This made the 31 year old man seem to remember his own story in MotoGP 2013.
“I like being behind Pedro [Acosta]. “I like him because he rides with ‘a little less awareness’ like we have experienced,” said Marquez as quoted by Sport.
“I explain it this way because it really reminds me of my debut in 2013, when I started everything, and yes, I broke many records because the speed was high,” added Marquez.
Marquez also believes that the records he has broken will not last forever. Talented racers will emerge who will raise the prestige of MotoGP, one of those potentials is Acosta.
“I said it before the start of the race in Qatar: Pedro will mark an era. And yes, he must now take advantage of the start that is his,” said Marquez.
“So loose, so easy, so brave, to get on the podium and even win the race, which he will win,” said the user of race number 93.
In the Portuguese GP, Acosta climbed the podium for the first time. He was in third place after Maverick Vinales had a single accident on the last lap.
This makes Acosta the third youngest racer to climb the podium in MotoGP history at the age of 19 years 304 days. Previously there were Randy Mamola (19 years 261 days) and Eduardo Salatino (19 years 274 days).
The next MotoGP race will take place at Circuit of the Americas, Austin on April 14. Acosta has the opportunity to climb into the top three standings if he climbs the podium again.
