Paris 2024 Olympic Games: for Victor Wembanyama, gold is “attainable” for men’s basketball

Within ten games with the San Antonio Spurs, Victor Wembanyama will be on vacation. Not qualified for the NBA playoffs with his franchise, the 20-year-old French pivot will be able to rest before considering the Paris 2024 Olympic Games with his selection. A competition about which he was questioned by several colleagues, including The Team, this Thursday after Spurs training. Good news for French fans: “Wemby” is confident.

“I think the gold medal is very achievable if you play in such a way as not to have any regrets,” says the young prodigy, two days after the draw for the group stage of the Olympics. The French team inherited in the first round Japan, reigning world champion Germany and the winner of the qualifying tournament taking place in Latvia. “We have a potentially trap group, even if it seems interesting and affordable for us,” summarizes Wembanyama, still quoted by L’Équipe.

The former Nanterre player dreams of the Olympics and announces that he will carry out his individual preparation between France and the United States before the collective meets again as summer approaches, on June 17. To best prepare for the Olympic tournament, the Blues will face Turkey, Germany (twice), Serbia, Australia and Canada in July. With, we all hope, a Wembanyama in great shape.
