A new target for Bryce Young and Dave Canales.
According to ESPN, the Panthers and the Steelers have agreed to a trade around receiver Diontae Johnson.
In addition to the player, the Panthers receive a 7th overall in the 2024 Draft. In return, the Steelers take cornerback Donte Jackson and a 6th round of the Draft.
Donte Jackson was going to be worth nearly $15 million on the payroll. By parting with him via a trade, the Panthers free up 5 million. But, by recovering Johnson, the Panthers will have to pay $ 3 million in bonus linked to the player’s contract signed during the 2022 offseason.
A number 1 receiver to help Bryce Young?
After spending several million dollars on the offensive line (Hunt, Lewis), the Panthers are once again adding experience to the receiving contingent. In addition to Johnson, the receiving corps is a mix of experience and youth with Adam Thielen and recently drafted Jonathan Mingo.
Recently drafted in the 2nd round, this appears to be the beginning of the end for Terrace Marshall Jr.
With this trade, the Panthers seem to be doing everything they can to help Bryce Young. On the Steelers side, this means that George Pickens has a new status as number 1 receiver. It must be said that with his 1,140 yards and 5 touchdowns, he has visibly convinced the Steelers front office.
So this is the end of the adventure in Pittsbugh for Diontae Johnson. In 5 years, he played 77 games, for 391 receptions, 4363 yards and 25 touchdowns.
