The reason is that “Wemby” threw the game ball into the stands to the fans after the end of the game. Maybe Knicks guard Jalen Brunson would have liked it too after he scored 61 points in the defeat. So, according to ESPN, a ball boy ran into the stands to grab the ball from the fan who caught it.

After the game, Wembanyama joked that he certainly wouldn’t pay for the ball. “Someone else is going to pay for this,” the Spurs star, who delivered a historic 40 points, 20 rebounds and seven assists, said at the post-game press conference.
