Outaouais Athletes Shine with 19 Medals in First Block of Competition

At the change of block, the counter is at 19 medals, including eight gold. This harvest is good for 4th place among all regions, behind the South Shore (35), Laval (24) and Lac-St-Louis (20).

Karate athletes led the charge with 11 medals, including seven gold. Genevieve Dumont, Clara Doucette, Mae Lafrenière, Antoine Béland, Taylor Bennett and Jacob Gosselin all won two individual medals.

The other gold medal for Outaouais came from the flag bearer during the opening ceremony, Adréa Beaulieu, who triumphed in individual badminton in the 16 and under category. Gymnastics, trampoline and figure skating complete the medal picture for the first block.

The second block will begin tomorrow and will last until March 9. Men’s and women’s curling, fencing, weightlifting, women’s hockey, judo, speed skating, diving, cross-country skiing and table tennis will be the sports in action.

“Block change day is always an exciting stage in the running of the Games. This marks not only the half-time of the competition waves, but also the arrival of a whole new group of athletes just as motivated as the first. We are experiencing beautiful moments,” said Charles-André Larocque, head of mission of the Outaouais delegation.
