Osaka Toin Dominates, Hotoku Gakuen and Kamimura Gakuen Advance in Koshien Tournament

The fifth day of the Invitational High School Baseball Tournament was held on the 22nd, with three games in the first round being played at Koshien Stadium, with Osaka Toin, Hotoku Gakuen (Hyogo), and Kamimura Gakuen (Kagoshima) advancing to the second round.

Osaka Toin easily defeated Hokkai (Hokkaido) 7-1. Manager Koichi Nishitani achieved his 68th victory in the spring/summer Koshien tournament, tying him with Hitoshi Takashima, who coached Chiben Wakayama, for the highest number of wins as a manager in the Koshien tournament.

Last year’s runner-up, Hotoku Gakuen, won a walk-off against Aiko Daimyoden (Aichi), 3-2, after a ten-inning tie-break.

Kamimura Gakuen, a top four player in last summer’s Koshien Tournament, defeated Sakushin Gakuin (Tochigi) 6-3. This is the 100th victory for the Kagoshima Prefecture team at the Koshien tournament.
