Orkun Kökcü Rejects Besiktas Loan Offer Amid Benfica Controversy

Orkun Kökcü has been approached by Turkish side Besiktas to come over on loan from Benfica, the Turkish medium reports. Fans at least. The Portuguese midfielder came under fire after a critical interview The Telegraph and Besiktas hoped to take advantage of the unrest at the Portuguese top club.

Kökcü came into controversy a few weeks ago after he was tough on his trainer Roger Schmidt in conversation with journalist Marcel van der Kraan of De Telegraaf. Kökcü did not mince his words: “From the start, I never had the feeling that I was made important, not even by the trainer,” the former Feyenoord player said, among other things. It ensured that Schmidt kept the Turkish footballer out of the selection in the next match. Things have now been resolved between Kökcü and his coach.

Besiktas was also aware of the unrest that had arisen in Lisbon and saw an opportunity to make an attempt. The Turkish club has approached Kökcü to move to the Süper Lig on a rental basis next season, but the former Feyenoord player kindly rejected this request.

It is not surprising that Besiktas has made an attempt, because Kökcü has often expressed that he is a fan of this club. He also expressed that he would like to play for Besiktas one day, but that is still too early. Kökcü will probably want to take his chance at Benfica or make a move to a better-regarded competition than the Turkish Süper Lig.
