After the final departure of John van ‘t Schip, Ajax will soon have to look for a new coach. On Today Inside, Valentijn Driessen reviews a few names, including that of Arne Slot.

Driessen is asked by Genee if he already knows who will be Ajax’s new trainer. “No,” De Telegraaf’s sports chief answers in the negative. “They would like a Dutch trainer, but the supply is thin.”

“Pascal Jansen is free,” Driessen begins his summary. “Slot will of course not go to Ajax, because then he is not sure of his life and neither is his family. Frank de Boer could, but he does not think they will end up with him.”

“And then a bunch of lightweights are mentioned. Those (Pepijn, ed.) Lijnders from Liverpool,” Driessen refers to Jürgen Klopp’s current assistant at Liverpool. Johan Derksen cannot suppress his displeasure when he hears Lijnders’ name.

“Laughable!”, shouts the regular table guest. “You cannot make him a head coach,” adds Driessen, who immediately mentions a fifth name. “Dave Vos. He coaches the second team (Young Ajax, ed.).”

Derksen is not enthusiastic about him either. “I didn’t even know the other one (Vos, ed.). I’ve never heard of Dave Vos. That’s a cyclist, right?” he gets people laughing.

Van ‘t Schip announced on Thursday that he would not represent the group at Ajax next year. General manager Alex Kroes will therefore have to consider who should pull the Amsterdam team out of the doldrums in the near future. According to transfer market specialist Fabrizio Romano, there are four names on the shortlist, including Lijnders.
