Oosting is forced to take a step back: “I thought it was…

On Wednesday, FC Twente lost the practice match against the German VfL Bochum 2-0. Perhaps it had to do with the occupation on the bench, because Joseph Oosting had to settle for a place as an assistant. Sander Duits took over the tasks.

German explains to 1Twente why he was in charge. “I am taking the VC5 (Football Coach 5) course and in it you have to take a PVB (test of aptitude) in match coaching. Now I do practice matches more often, but today my teacher was also present who has to assess me on coaching the match. That is why Joseph handed over everything to me.”

German found it somewhat exciting, as he said in front of the camera. “It’s just like the old days at school. When you had a test it was also a bit tense. There was a bit of healthy tension in that area, but it’s not like I’m standing here shaking in front of the camera or standing at the match to shake. Certainly not. But there is some tension involved, because you are judged on what you do.”

He did his job as best he could and saw that Oosting was having difficulty with the role as assistant. “I did the preliminary discussion before the match. The analysis of VfL Bochum, how we wanted to do it and also the cooperation with the rest of the staff. The whole day was dedicated to that. Joseph filled my role. He said that he found it very difficult,” says Christus with a big laugh. “It’s fun and also nice that it is possible. It was a great day to experience what it was like to be a head coach.”
