The draw for the women’s and men’s basketball tournaments at the Olympic Games will take place this Tuesday, March 19. Before determining the different groups, the International Basketball Federation (Fiba) discussed the terms of placement in the different groups. The French men’s and women’s teams are placed in hat 3 while the American teams, both Olympic champions, logically appear in hat 1.
“As always for the Olympic Games, the programming will take into consideration the constraints of broadcasting and exhibition”explains the voice-over in a video broadcast by Fiba.
Priority to prime time for the Blues and the United States
Thus, the French men’s team will be placed in group A or B, specifies the explanatory video, when the United States, Olympic champions, will appear in group C. The idea is to open the prime time slots to United States, for broadcast in the afternoon on the American continent, without depriving the Blues.

The Blues could cross paths with their American counterparts, depending on the conditions established before the draw: the two teams can inherit group B or C. In this way, the French and American women’s teams would play on the same day, offset from the men’s selections.
