Now it’s official. Padova-Catania (Italian Serie C Cup second leg final) will be played behind closed doors

The clashes caused by the Catena fans in the first leg of the Coppa Italia Serie C final cost dearly, especially to Catania but also to Padova: why, what the two companies wanted to avoid, has instead become reality. AND the second leg final, the one that will award the trophy to one of the two teams, scheduled at the “Massimino” on April 2nd, will be played behind closed doors. This was decided by the Sports Judge (HERE the full note), who also inflicted heavy fines on the two competing clubs.

5000 fine to Padovathis is the reason: “having considered the continuation, measure of the sanction in application of articles 6, 13, paragraph 2, 25, paragraph 3 and 26 CGS, having evaluated the overall modalities of the facts and that the facts indicated above are characterized by particular gravity , as they represented a significant risk for the safety of members, fans and service workers (considering the methods of the throws carried out to the mutual detriment of the two groups of fans) and it was noted that no consequences occurred (r. Arbitration, r . federal proceedings, RCC).

And the huge fine of 10,000 euros against Catania, complete with the obligation to “play a home match behind closed doors”. We also report the motivation: “From the above, the seriousness of the behavior of the CATANIA supporters is evident. Indeed, the conduct reported above was perpetrated in violation of articles 6, 25 and 26 CGS and constitute facts contrary to the rules on order and security and violent events which constitute a danger to public safety. In this case it should be noted that they led, even in concrete terms, to the delayed resumption of the game after the interval of approximately 4 minutes due, moreover, to the invasion of field by a significant number of visiting fans. Furthermore, they represented a significant risk for the safety of members and fans and service workers (considering the manner of the throws carried out to the mutual detriment of the two groups of fans) and caused damage to the sports facility.
In light of the above and observed, in the above conduct a particularly serious case must be considered recurring which, in application of paragraph 4 of the art. 25 cit., imposes the infliction, jointly or severally, of one of the sanctions referred to in the art. 8, paragraph 1, letters d), e), f), CGS
In identifying the most appropriate sanction and fairly commensurate with the seriousness of the conduct perpetrated and the concrete consequences resulting from it, the sanction provided for by letter e) appears appropriate, i.e. the obligation on the Catania Club to play one or more matches at closed doors, as well as the imposition of a fine. The appropriate gradation of the sanction, commensurate with the seriousness of the facts examined, appears to be the one indicated below.
Once the continuation is considered, the amount of the sanction is determined in application of the articles. 6, 8, lett. b) and e), 13, paragraph 2, 25 and 26 CGS, having assessed the overall nature of the facts and their seriousness, having noted that the sanctioned club played the match away from home (arbitration law, federal procedure law, civil liability , photographic documentation – obligation to pay compensation if requested). The measure itself is attenuated in consideration of the organizational models adopted pursuant to art. 29 CGS
As a result, it imposes the sanction of playing a home match behind closed doors and a fine of 10,000 euros.
It provides that the sanction of playing a home match behind closed doors will be served on the occasion of the next Italian Serie C Cup match that the CATANIA club will play after the date of publication of this decision (Italian Serie C Cup Return Final of 2 April 2024 ).
