Djokovic causes confusion
Novak Djokovic credits former coach Goran Ivanisevic with contributing to twelve of his Grand Slam titles, but in fact there were fewer. The “Djoker” probably simply made a mistake in the year.

Tennis superstar Novak Djokovic made a small mistake when announcing his separation from Goran Ivanisevic that caused confusion.

As Djokovic wrote in his farewell post on Instagram, the 52-year-old had been part of his coaching team since 2018 and led him to 12 Grand Slam titles. In fact, the Croatian only joined Djokovic’s staff in 2019 and was involved in nine major trophies – Djokovic probably simply missed a year.
Djokovic and Ivanisevic: Cooperation began in 2019
The collaboration between Djokovic and Ivanisevic began at the 2019 Wimbledon tournament, which Djokovic won; nothing is known about a previous, unpublicized collaboration between the two. At the time, Ivanisevic himself spoke of a sudden call “a few days ago” that “a little surprised” him.
At that time, Ivanisevic was only traveling with Djokovic in the first week of the tournament due to contractual obligations on the senior tour. The cooperation that was initially agreed on as a test turned out to be a stroke of luck: Djokovic kept Ivanisevic in the team and celebrated further Grand Slam successes in Melbourne (2020, 21, 23) and Paris (21, 23) in the following years. The Serb Djokovic was not irritated by voices from his homeland that criticized him for working with the Croatian coach – because of the still open wounds between the two countries from the Yugoslavia war in the 1990s.
“Our chemistry on court had its ups and downs, but our friendship was always rock solid,” Djokovic wrote, concluding with: “Thank you for everything my friend. Love you.”
Things are not going well for Djokovic this year.
